Goal: Explain what Relay is and How it works

Welcome to Relay

Relay connects your People, Notes, Tasks, and Events all in one space to reduce context switching and save time, no matter the work at hand.

  • For coaches, mentors, and pastors, this can dramatically streamline how you care for your people and stay prepared without burnout.
  • For those receiving guidance, it provides a simple way to do your part and keep progressing towards your goals.
  • For everyone else, its a convenient place for all kinds of work, from simple todo lists and plans with the family, to managing complex projects with a team.
  • Relay has all the usuals you'd expect like contacts that stay up to date, robust linked notes, recurring tasks, and a few surprises.

Coaches

Dear coaches, mentors, pastors, and anyone else shepherding another person, welcome to Relay! You are very near and dear to the heart of the team at Relay. We hope this tool will remove barriers to your practice and give you back the time you need to focus on the people in your care.

The reason Relay combines People, Notes, Tasks, and Events is so you can keep track of clients and their progress and turn conversations into growth.

It helps answer questions like:

  • When did I last talk to this person?
  • What did we talk about?
  • What did we plan for next?
  • Who is following up?

It helps you and your team:

  • Prepare for the next meeting

  • Take notes during the meeting

  • Check in between meetings

  • Catalogue and share resources

Clients & Mentees

Did your coach or mentor send you an invite to Relay? Welcome! We hope you find the growth you're seeking and that Relay is as seamless as possible. You'll find all your meeting sessions, notes and resources gathered and automatically updated for you. You can add your own notes and share with your coach just as easily.

Helps you stay on task

  • See your personal notes right next to your session summary with your coach
  • View content your mentor has suggested for you
  • Reminders for your next session with one click link to the online meeting

Everyone

Hey you, yes you! Just looking around, curious what Relay is or how it compares to other productivity tools? Welcome! Glad you're here. Hopefully you like what you see and curious to see more. If you're familiar with Notion, Todoist, or Superlist you'll feel comfortable here, as well as hopefully see a few surprises. If you've never worked with anything other than Google Docs, you'll find some benefits to an integrated system.

What does it do

  • Sync your Apple and Google contacts together, automatically update data from LinkedIn
• Build a second brain and share it with the world or just your family with Notes and references and robust sharing options
  • Plan your day, your week, or maybe your year. Relay will be with you. Recurring tasks, habits, schedules, no problems.

How does Relay work?

The 3 main concepts in Relay are:

  • Types - what your stuff is
  • Layouts - how you view that stuff
  • Workspaces, Collections & Tags - group and organize your stuff

Everything is a "Type"

Relay can connect all kinds of Types such as People, Notes, Tasks, Events, and even more! We'll focus on these for now.

Types are things that model their real world counterparts. For example a Person has a phone number, while a Task does not. A Note is useful for any kind of information you want to remember. All Types can have detailed text attached to it, however a Note is a distinct Type.

Types can be composed together or reference other types, so you can assign a Person to a Task and a Note could reference either. You don't have to worry how it works, just create new ones or connect them and Relay figures it out.

This very welcome page you're reading right now is a Note

Here is a Person: [[Person: 2832a941-60e9-43ff-88cd-ed78cffb21be | John Bartel]]

Here is a Task: [[Task: c02c55cb-5133-4e44-afb3-55644487350e | Do a weekly review of my tasks and goals]] (try hovering your mouse over it!)

Types are represented by these special references, called "Chips" and when you hover, they become a "Card."

Try clicking on one! it becomes a popup "Preview" You can explore the details of a type without fully opening it.

Normally, you can click on the title to go to its full page, but we've disabled that for now.

Layouts are how you view your stuff, the main layouts are:

  • Flow - usually a grid, sometimes more like a bento layout if you're familiar
  • List - just a list of your stuff, good for todos
  • Board - kanban board with columns organized by status, good for complex projects
  • Calendar - 1 day, 3 day, week, month, and yearly views

Workspaces, Collections & Tags

Everyone in Relay has their own personal workspace, you may only have one. You can also create or join as many other workspaces as you like, however those are attached to organizations such as a company. A workspace is the highest level of categorization in Relay, and should not be used to manage a team or your family.

For those you should use a Collection instead. A Collection is a special Type itself that also groups other Types. While any Type can reference each other, a collection groups them in a special way while also being a single unit itself. This makes it ideal for any group, whether a project with a due date, or a team of people, or a friend or family group.

Tags are cross sectional ways or categorizing your content. They only affect layouts and search results, but have no singular identity or Type themselves. This means they're not good for groups or teams, but rather general categories like [[Tag: 51b819a5-8c35-4ff1-98c9-95918fad1a23 | #finance]] or something like that.

Relay is flexible enough you can use these as much or as little as you like, organize you see it best

Make something new

It's easy to create new stuff, in the upper right corner, try pressing the Make button!

Now, you can type whatever you want, and Relay figures out which type it should be, go ahead and try it!

You may not want to manually create 500 contacts however, wouldn't it be nice to import them automatically?

Connect to your Gmail account, and Relay can import all your contacts and calendar events, and keep them synced. Relay works best when connected to your Google data, and keeps it nice and secure. We don't even use your data like Google does. Would you like to import it now?

Search and find

Now that you have your stuff in Relay, how do you find it?

Search for anything in your relay workspace with the search button, or CMD K. As you type results come in, click to view a preview of that result.

Do things fast

So what if you need to do a lot of things at once? let's see I have many overdue tasks and I want to reschedule them for tomorrow. Just ask the Relay agent to do it for you! In the upper right, or by pressing "CMD J" it will open the agent menu, then tell it to do whatever you like! In this case, simply "reschedule my overdue tasks to tomorrow" will suffice, let's watch!

And, you guessed it, this tutorial is actually happening inside the agent panel itself, thats how this tutorial works. You can ask the agent to write you notes, assign tasks, schedule events, or whatever you like. Now that the tutorial is finished, explore on your own or try asking the agent for a special command, "/explore" Have fun!
